There is no doubt that Covid-19 changed the world. On a personal level, our daily lives have changed through mask mandates, vaccine decisions, social distancing, school closures, supply shortages, virtual work and learning, and mental health struggles. Children are in school one week, out the next. Lockdowns have come and gone, borders closed, opened, and closed again. We thought we had some control and some relative normalcy and all of these things started happening again. I don’t need to tell you how destabilizing this has felt for the average person.
The dramatic changes the world has made as a result of Covid-19 have shed a lot of light on the way we live our lives and the way the world responds to events like this. We’ve all had to take a step back and ask ourselves, “what does this mean for me and my family?”
Covid also presented not only the average office worker but creatives as well, with an incredible opportunity to grow their art businesses online. There has never been a better time or a better opportunity than now.
Now Is The Time To Grow Your Business Online!
There has never been a better time to take advantage of the opportunity to grow your art business online!
But instead, many artists will avoid the opportunities because of the fear, and anxiety of not understanding the technology, or not understanding how you market to people online.
Settling for the way things are is safe. But it’s not going to help you grow.
Humans make a lot of excuses about why they don’t pursue their dreams. As a coach and business strategist for artists, I hear them all the time.
- “I don’t have the money.”
- “Even though I hate it, this is the business that makes the money.”
- “I have a family to support.”
- “I’m not smart enough to pull that off.”
- “I could never leave this place.”
- “What will other people think?”
- “My dreams are just dreams, they could never become reality.”
- “I don’t know where to start, I’m too overwhelmed.”
- “I don’t have time.”
Does any of this sound familiar to you? Guess what? Most of the negative narratives we tell ourselves and tell others aren’t really true. These are just fear responses, and an unwillingness to step outside of our comfort zones.
Opportunities and the Pandemic
As I write this blog post, I am spending the month of February in Costa Rica, working, teaching art classes, volunteering at a hobby farm, and a wildlife sanctuary, learning Spanish, and exploring this beautiful country. I can do that because I have an online business I can operate from anywhere.
Covid in all of its upheaval is offering us some incredible opportunities, especially if you were unhappy at your job prior to the pandemic or if you’ve always been dreaming of pursuing something else, a passion project or hobby as your main gig. Covid made us rethink what is important because so many things have changed and in many ways, so many things have been taken away from us. All of this has made us pause and recalibrate a bit. This kind of thinking is clearly illustrated in the statistics. Nearly 4.5 million people chose to leave their jobs in November of 2021, an all-time high!
People are now used to doing things online. If you were teaching live art classes prior to the pandemic, your students are probably expecting you to do online classes! If you weren’t teaching prior to the pandemic, now is the time to seriously consider it as a surefire way to grow your business, give you more free time, and complete freedom over that time, your income, and your freedom.
Time ticks away. We all know that. So why wait? Why not go wildly towards your dreams?
